A cassette AC is ceiling-mounted and distributes air in four directions — the ideal solution for offices and commercial spaces. Its most common faults relate to its ceiling position and the condensate pump.
Most Common Cassette AC Faults
1. Water Leaking from the Ceiling or Around the Panel Edge
By far the most common cassette fault. The ceiling position means the internal condensate pump is the only defence against leakage. Blockage causes tray overflow and water leaking from the panel edges into the false ceiling — damaging plasterboard panels and embedded electrical cables.
Abha: every 3–4 months. Khamis Mushait: every 2–3 months (peak summer heat raises condensate rate). Jazan: every 6–8 weeks in summer — coastal humidity doubles condensation volume.
2. One of the Four Air Directions Not Working
A cassette has four independent louvers with separate stepper motors. A failed motor means air not reaching part of the room. Repair requires removing the unit from the ceiling to replace the small motor.
3. Loud Noise or Rattling
A ceiling-mounted cassette transfers vibration to the false ceiling structure, amplifying sounds. Common causes: dirt on fan blades disrupting balance, loose mounting screws, or the unit not perfectly level.
4. Uneven Cooling Within the Room
If one area is significantly colder than another despite the cassette, the problem is louver angle calibration. The louvers need adjustment based on the room's shape and seating positions.
What Differs in Cassette Maintenance vs Split
All internal maintenance requires ceiling access — a ladder and sometimes lifting false ceiling tiles. In offices and retail, scheduling outside working hours is strongly preferred to avoid disruption.
